Udaipur, August 5 (H.S.) – Nathdwara MLA Maharana Vishvaraj Singh Mewar has strongly objected to a map published in the Class 8 NCERT history textbook, which depicts Mewar as part of the Maratha Empire. He termed the depiction historically inaccurate and an injustice to Rajasthan’s proud heritage.
The disputed map appears in the Class 8 NCERT history textbook (Part-1, Unit-3, Page 71), showing the political divisions of India during a certain period. The MLA said that sometimes Mewar is shown under British rule and at other times under Maratha control, which he described as not just historical ignorance but a deliberate distortion of history.
Singh questioned whether the purpose of writing history is to present facts or to mislead future generations. He stated that scholars should know that Mewar defended its independent existence for centuries and never bowed to any external power, be it the Mughals or the Marathas. The sacrifices from Bappa Rawal to Maharana Pratap, he stressed, are not folklore but documented history.
The MLA has written to the Ministry of Education and NCERT demanding an amendment to the concerned map.
