Liver Transplant and Robotic Heart Surgery Launched in Udaipur

UDAIPUR, January 24 (Udaipur Kiran): Udaipur has marked a major milestone in advanced medical care with the launch of liver transplant services and robotic as well as minimal invasive heart surgery. GBH General and Cancer Hospital, located at Bedwas and operated by the GBH Group, has simultaneously introduced liver transplant (hepatic transplantation), robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, four-arm robotic general surgery, orthopedic robotic surgery, and a dedicated breast cancer clinic. With this initiative, the hospital has become the first in southern Rajasthan to offer all these advanced facilities under one roof.

Liver Transplant

The announcement was made on Friday during a press conference by GBH Group Chairman Dr. Kirti Kumar Jain. He said the GBH Group, dedicated to the memory of his parents and brother, has been working for the past 20 years to provide modern medical treatment in Udaipur. He highlighted several initiatives taken by the group over the years, including the city’s first multi-super-specialty hospital, first cancer hospital, first PPP MRI facility, first NABH-accredited hospital, first trauma centre, first LINAC radiation machine, and Rajasthan’s only and one of the world’s most advanced tomotherapy radiation machines.

Extending these efforts further, the hospital has now focused on liver and cardiac surgeries. Experienced liver transplant surgeon Dr. Saurabh Singhal, trained at AIIMS Delhi and in the United States, has joined GBH General Hospital. He has performed hundreds of successful liver transplants and will now provide his services in Udaipur. Alongside this, robotic and minimal invasive cardiac surgery will also be available in the city for the first time. Cardiac surgeon Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Bansal, trained at reputed medical colleges and hospitals in Delhi and Pune, will regularly offer his services at the hospital.

A separate cardiac wing has been developed, bringing together a team of well-known interventional cardiologists from Udaipur, including Dr. S.K. Kaushik, Dr. Kapil Bhargava, Dr. Danny Manglani, Dr. Sunny Yadav, and Dr. Hitesh Yadav, along with Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Bansal. With robotic heart surgery, patients will no longer require the chest to be fully opened, as procedures can now be performed through small incisions.

For advanced general surgery, Udaipur’s first four-arm surgical robot has been installed in the main operation theatre. Robotic and general surgeon Dr. Saurabh Anand has also joined the surgical team. In addition, an orthopedic robotic system has been installed to enable precise joint replacement surgeries. Along with these services, a dedicated breast cancer clinic for women has been launched from Basant Panchami, with noted breast cancer surgeon Dr. Garima Mehta providing care.

A specialised team of anaesthesia experts and trained nursing staff has been deployed to provide round-the-clock care to critical liver and cardiac patients. The hospital is equipped with advanced operation theatres, high-tech ICUs, modern diagnostic facilities, and 24×7 emergency services to ensure safe and successful liver transplants.

These facilities are expected to bring new hope to patients suffering from liver cirrhosis, liver failure, cardiac failure, and other serious liver disorders. At present, OPD services of Dr. Saurabh Singhal are available at the hospital.

Director Dr. Surbhi Porwal stated that the process to include liver transplant and other advanced treatments under various government HEALTH schemes will begin soon, enabling needy patients to receive free treatment under these schemes. She also emphasised efforts to increase public awareness about organ donation.

The achievement has been described by medical experts and city residents as a milestone for Udaipur’s healthcare sector. Liver transplant is a complex yet life-saving procedure that requires strict protocols, careful patient selection, and an experienced medical team, all of which have been ensured at GBH General Hospital.

Dean and senior orthopedic specialist Dr. Vinay Joshi, Director Dr. Surbhi Porwal, Head of General Surgery Dr. Sangeeta Tiwari, and Dr. Garima Mehta were present during the press conference.
