Kohli’s Masterclass Under Pressure

Chasing a target of 242, India lost captain Rohit Sharma (20) early, but Kohli steadied the innings with crucial partnerships alongside Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

Gill played a pivotal role in countering Shaheen Afridi’s fiery opening spell, scoring a valuable 46 runs, helping India reach 64/1 in the first 10 overs.

Speaking after the match, Kohli expressed his satisfaction with the performance:

“Batting in such a crucial game was special. Our strategy was to control the middle overs without taking unnecessary risks against the spinners. Shreyas accelerated towards the end, which allowed me to find a few boundaries as well.”

Shaheen Afridi’s Early Strike Neutralized

Pakistan had a glimmer of hope when Shaheen Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma early, but Kohli and Gill ensured there was no added pressure on India.

Kohli praised Gill’s resilience against Afridi’s pace, acknowledging the importance of an aggressive approach in the powerplay:

“Clarity is crucial, especially when facing quality fast bowlers. Shubman played brilliantly against Shaheen, and that’s why he is the No.1 batsman in the world right now. Getting quick runs in the powerplay was key to avoiding pressure later on.”

India in Command as Tournament Progresses

With two wins in two matches, India is now in a dominant position in the Champions Trophy and will get a much-needed break before facing New Zealand next Sunday.

Kohli, who continues to perform at the highest level at 36 years old, acknowledged the importance of rest between high-intensity games:

“At 36, a few days of rest feel like a blessing. Delivering performances like this in every game requires a lot of effort.”

India now looks ahead to their crucial encounter against New Zealand, while Pakistan’s fate hangs in the balance, relying on other teams’ results to stay in contention.
