Iyer Expresses Disappointment After Heavy Defeat

Nottingham, July 8: India faced a crushing defeat against England in the third T20 International match, losing by 125 runs. This loss at Trent Bridge marks India’s largest defeat in terms of runs in T20 history. Captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the team’s poor performance, stating that such a loss is unacceptable.

After the match, Iyer said, “It was very bad. Losing by such a large margin is not acceptable. First and foremost, we need to acknowledge this defeat and start over. This was not a 200-run wicket. Losing four wickets in the powerplay hindered our ability to gain momentum, and that’s where the match slipped away from us. You can plan a lot, but once you are on the field, you have to adjust and find the right length.”

Iyer further added, “When you are chasing, you need to set patterns, and we failed to play according to our plan. This will be a great opportunity for a strong comeback. We have played very poor cricket, but there is also a lot to learn. Players need to find ways to impact their performance. Everyone needs to work on contributing significantly and taking responsibility.”

Chasing a target of 202 runs set by England, India was bowled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs, with seven batsmen failing to reach double digits. Vaibhav Surya and Ishan Kishan were the top scorers for India, both making 13 runs. On the bowling front, Josh Tongue excelled for England, taking four wickets for just 28 runs, while Jofra Archer claimed three wickets. Earlier, England scored 201 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs, with Phil Salt leading the charge with a powerful innings of 70 runs off 44 balls, and Jos Buttler contributing 36 runs.
