ISRO Launches Navy’s ‘Baahubali’ Satellite GSAT-7R, Boosts Maritime Communication Network

Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh), November 2 (Udaipur Kiran) — The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday successfully launched the Indian Navy’s advanced communication satellite GSAT-7R (CMS-03) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The satellite, dubbed the Navy’s “Baahubali,” marks a significant step in strengthening India’s space-based communication and maritime domain awareness capabilities.

The GSAT-7R is India’s heaviest communication satellite, weighing about 4,400 kilograms. It has been indigenously designed and developed with several advanced technological components tailored to meet the Indian Navy’s operational and strategic needs.

Once fully operational, GSAT-7R will provide wider and more efficient telecommunication coverage across the Indian Ocean region. Equipped with high-capacity transponders, it will support secure voice, data, and video links across multiple communication bands. This will ensure seamless, real-time connectivity between the Navy’s ships, aircraft, submarines, and maritime operation centers — significantly enhancing India’s naval communication strength.

The satellite’s successful launch is a strong reflection of India’s commitment to technological self-reliance and maritime security. It symbolizes the Navy’s determination to safeguard national interests through indigenous innovation and advanced space technology.

ISRO confirmed the mission’s success, stating, “CMS-03 has been successfully launched.”

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh congratulated the ISRO team on the achievement. Posting on social media platform X, he wrote, “Congratulations to Team ISRO. India’s Baahubali LVM3-M5 mission soars high with the successful launch of the CMS-03 communication satellite — the heaviest ever launched from Indian soil into GTO. ISRO continues to script one success after another. Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support to India’s space program.”
