Indian Womens Team Dominates Australia in T20 Opener

Sydney, February 15: The first match of the three T20 series between the India and Australia women’s cricket teams took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Thanks to a remarkable bowling performance by Arundhati Reddy, the Indian team restricted Australia to just 133 runs in 18 overs.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Australia struggled at the start, losing their first wicket at a score of 22 and the second at 27. Beth Mooney was dismissed for 5 runs, while Georgia Voll managed to score 18 runs. A partnership of 41 runs between Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry gave Australia some hope, but the innings fell apart after Perry was out for 20 runs at a score of 68.

The Australian team collapsed, losing their last five wickets for just 12 runs. Litchfield top-scored with 26 runs, followed by Georgia Wareham with 30 runs.

Arundhati Reddy played a crucial role in the Indian bowling attack, achieving her career-best figures by taking 4 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs. Additionally, Renuka Thakur claimed 2 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs, while N. Chahar took 2 wickets for 14 runs in 3 overs. Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma each took 1 wicket, with Shreyanka Patil being the only bowler without a wicket.

If Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma can provide a strong start for the Indian team, they could secure an easy victory and take the lead in the series.
