India staged an impressive comeback after trailing early in the match. Head coach Joakim Alexandersson’s tactical substitutions turned the game in India’s favour. In the 40th minute, he brought in Thandamany Baske for Bonifilia Shullai — a move that proved decisive. Baske equalised for India in the 55th minute and then set up Anushka Kumari’s goal in the 66th minute, which secured the victory.

Earlier, Uzbekistan had taken the lead through Shakhzoda Alikhonova’s strike in the 38th minute. However, India displayed remarkable composure and control in the second half to clinch the match and secure qualification.

This is the first time the Indian U-17 women’s team has qualified for the AFC Asian Cup on merit. India last featured in the tournament in 2005, when teams were granted direct entry without a qualification process. Since the introduction of the qualification system, this marks India’s maiden successful campaign.

With this achievement, India’s senior women’s team, U-20 team, and U-17 team will now all compete in their respective continental tournaments — a significant milestone for women’s football in the country.
