Indian Navy Showcases Maritime Heritage in Boston

New Delhi, July 15: Indian Navy personnel showcased their discipline and cultural heritage during a parade in the historic streets of Boston, USA. The event featured the INS Sudarshini, a sailing vessel representing India’s rich maritime traditions and cultural heritage.

Participating in the prestigious ‘Sail Boston 2026’ event, the INS Sudarshini joined over 60 majestic sailing ships from more than 20 countries. The crew and cadets of the Indian Navy marched enthusiastically, captivating local citizens and international participants alike. The parade offered a glimpse into India’s maritime traditions, navigation history, and cultural identity.

Defense experts noted that this participation further strengthens the long-standing maritime cooperation between India and the United States. It also highlighted that the sea serves not only as a medium for trade and security but also as a powerful bridge connecting nations and societies. Previously, the INS Sudarshini had proudly represented the Indian flag at the ‘Sail Fourth 250’ event in New York, before arriving in Boston to celebrate maritime heritage with traditional vessels from around the world.

Under the ‘Lokayan 2026’ initiative, the INS Sudarshini is visiting various ports in the United States, aiming to promote India’s maritime heritage, navigation traditions, and the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). During its journey from Norfolk to Boston, the vessel has also conveyed messages of Indian culture, friendship, and goodwill.

The presence of the Indian Navy’s historic sailing vessel in Boston reaffirms that India’s maritime heritage is not just a part of history but a vibrant force that continues to connect the world today. Notably, the INS Sudarshini is a sail training ship based on ancient shipbuilding techniques, utilized for training, maritime awareness, and international goodwill voyages. Currently, it is part of the Lokayan 2026 global maritime campaign, promoting India’s maritime heritage, culture, and naval traditions across various countries.
