Jack Antonoff Discusses Survivor’s Guilt After Split from Margaret Qualley
Jack Antonoff reflects on performing songs about his estranged wife, stating he prefers to experience life's ups and downs publicly rather than privately.

Jack Antonoff has publicly discussed his feelings surrounding his recent separation from actress Margaret Qualley while continuing to perform love songs about her during his current tour with his band, Bleachers.
In an interview with The Guardian, Antonoff stated that he thought deeply about the implications of changing his setlist. He decided to retain songs like “Dirty Wedding Dress” and “You and Forever,” emphasizing his commitment to honesty with his audience. “The deal I’ve made with my audience is that I’m going to tell you honestly how I feel,” Antonoff said.
News of Antonoff and Qualley’s breakup broke in July, shortly after they had been married for just under a year. Although the couple has not publicly detailed the reasons behind their split, a source indicated that both their busy schedules and issues of trust contributed to the separation.
Despite any personal turmoil, Antonoff sees power in his music. He shared, “Anyone could relate to the terrible sadness and pain, but there’s a great power to it also. It’s actually been really beautiful.” He expressed a desire to connect with listeners through shared experiences of love and loss.
In a candid moment, he remarked, “I would rather live through something publicly than even escape it privately,” highlighting his belief in authentic expression through his art.
Recently, Qualley’s representative disputed claims about trust issues, stating, “There were no trust issues,” and emphasized that both parties maintain deep love and respect for each other.
As Antonoff continues his tour, he remains focused on his craft, balancing vulnerability in his songwriting with the challenges of personal life. His work, both as an artist and a producer, spans collaborations with names such as Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and Lorde.
