Colombo, February 15: India triumphed over Pakistan by 61 runs in the 27th match of the T20 World Cup 2026, held at the R. Premadasa Stadium. With this victory, India secured its third consecutive win and advanced to the Super-8 stage of the tournament.
In their opening match, India defeated the USA by 29 runs, followed by a commanding 93-run victory against Namibia. The Indian team is set to play its final league match against the Netherlands on February 18.
Batting first after losing the toss, India scored 175 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The team faced an early setback with the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma for a duck at a score of just 1. However, Ishan Kishan took charge, forming a crucial partnership of 87 runs with Tilak Varma off 46 balls, bringing the score to 88. Ishan scored 77 runs off 40 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 10 fours.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed with a partnership of 38 runs for the third wicket with Tilak Varma and added 33 runs with Shivam Dube for the fifth wicket. Suryakumar scored 32 runs off 29 balls, while Shivam Dube added 27 runs. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten with 11 runs off 4 balls. For Pakistan, Saeem Ayub was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets, while Salman Agha, Shaheen Afridi, and Usman Tariq each claimed 1 wicket.
In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs. They suffered an early blow with Sahibzada Farhan dismissed for a duck on the fourth ball of the innings, and soon lost 3 wickets for just 13 runs.
Usman Khan managed to score 44 runs off 34 balls, forming a partnership of 21 runs with Babar Azam (5) for the fourth wicket and 39 runs with Shadab Khan (14). However, the team faltered after losing their fifth wicket at a score of 73. Shaheen Afridi contributed 23 runs, but it was not enough to secure a win. For India, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy each took 2 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak Varma claimed 1 wicket each.
