Hostel for Northeast Students Launched in Pune

Pune, August 3: The Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Loci Dikho, has laid the foundation stone for a hostel dedicated to students from the Northeast region of India. This initiative, named the ‘Swargiya Jamnabai Phirodia North East India Bhavan – Rani Gaidinliu Girls Hostel’, is being constructed at a cost of approximately ₹10 crore in Katraj, Pune.

Dikho emphasized that the Northeast is a vital part of India’s heritage, rich in traditions, vibrant cultures, and immense talent, contributing significantly to the nation’s growth and progress. He stated that this project symbolizes the collective commitment of the country to support students and youth from all parts of India.

“This project reflects our shared commitment to support youth from every corner of the country. As India moves towards the vision of ‘Developed India’, every young person, regardless of their origin, should have equal access to quality education and opportunities,” he remarked.

Describing the proposed building as a ‘home away from home’ for students from the Northeast, Dikho assured that it would provide a safe and conducive environment for higher education, personal development, and long-term success.

The hostel is expected to serve as a permanent residence for students from Manipur studying in Pune, allowing them to focus on their studies without the challenges of finding suitable accommodation.

Dikho reiterated that the Manipur government will continue to support initiatives that empower youth and enhance educational opportunities for students from the Northeast, enabling them to realize their full potential and contribute to the country’s development.

A senior official mentioned that the proposed hostel, expected to be completed in one and a half years, will also play a crucial role in promoting harmony, mutual understanding, and social interaction among various communities from Manipur and the Northeast region.

The official added that students from diverse backgrounds, ethnic communities, and states will live, study, and interact under one roof, fostering unity, cultural exchange, and a sense of national integrity, thereby strengthening relationships among the youth of the region.
