Udaipur, February 11, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Hindustan Zinc launched its immersive initiative ‘She Knows the Ground She Stands On’, aimed at providing young women with first-hand exposure to mining, smelting, and core STEM careers.

Under the initiative, selected students from leading science institutions will visit Hindustan Zinc’s mining and metals operations over the next 25–30 days. The programme is designed as an on-ground experience to help young women understand large-scale industrial operations and explore career opportunities in the metals sector.
The first group of students included participants from institutions such as IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, MNIT Jaipur, Banasthali Vidyapith, CTAE Udaipur, MLSU Udaipur, and MBM Jodhpur. Students from disciplines including electrical engineering, mining, geology, and metallurgy gained exposure to advanced technologies, modern mining practices, and operational processes.
The initiative offers structured site immersions across underground mines, smelters, and laboratories, along with interactions with engineers and technical leaders. Sharing her experience, Ankita Gour, a Mechanical Engineering student from MBM University, Jodhpur, said she was excited to see engineering concepts come alive during the visit to mining operations.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said the initiative reflects the company’s focus on nurturing diverse talent and building a future-ready workforce. He said inclusion is a strategic strength and the programme aims to encourage more young women to consider long-term careers in science, technology, and mining.
Students echoed similar views on witnessing industrial operations for the first time. Shruti Kumari, a Mining Engineering student from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, said the experience of seeing large machines and interacting with women professionals across roles was inspiring.
Hindustan Zinc employs over 700 women, including more than 200 engineers in core operational roles. Over a quarter of its workforce comprises women, and the company aims to achieve 30 per cent diversity by 2030.
