Google Pixel 8a was recently launched globally and in India. The smartphone is powered by the company’s Tensor G3 chip and is a cheaper entry into the Pixel 8 series. Now it looks like the Pixel 8a is quietly receiving its first software update.
According to a report from Android Authority, Google is rolling out the first software update for its latest Pixel smartphones. The 190MB update includes several updates including the May 2024 Android security patch and Google’s AI-powered background generator. There are no other significant changes in this update.
The generative AI feature was previously exclusive to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. This tool helps users create unique wallpapers based on specific keywords and themes. A customized version of this feature is also available in the flagship Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
The Google Pixel 8a features a Tensor G3 SoC, a 4,492mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, a 64MP dual rear camera, and a 13MP selfie camera. It features a 6.1-inch 120Hz Full HD+ OLED display and is IP67 certified for dust and splash protection. For security reasons, there is a fingerprint sensor under the display. 128GB and 256GB storage options are available.
The smartphone ships with Android 14. It joins the Google Pixel 8 series, which came onto the market in October 2023 with the entry-level models Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel smartphone packs a 4492mAh battery that supports 18W wired fast charging.
The Google Pixel 8a, available in Aloe, Gulf, Obsidian and Porcelain colors, is priced at Rs 20 lakh in India. 8GB + 128GB costs $52,999 and the 8GB + 256GB version costs $52,999. 59,999.
