Gold Prices Steady as Fed Holds Rates; Investors Await Inflation Data
Gold prices stabilized after the Federal Reserve maintained interest rates, but investors are focusing on upcoming inflation data for direction.

Gold prices held steady after the U.S. Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged, providing some stability to bullion markets amid recent volatility.
On October 29, gold traded just above $4,040 per ounce, down 0.67 percent compared to the previous day. U.S. gold futures prices were around $4,052.10 at 03:27 GMT.
In India, domestic gold futures for delivery on December 4 remained flat, trading at Rs 1,43,573 per 10 grams, a slight decline of 0.09 percent. The MCX spot gold price closed at Rs 1,42,253 per 10 grams on October 28.
The Federal Reserve’s decision to keep interest rates steady at 3.75 percent to 4 percent has reduced immediate concerns about tightening financial conditions. However, differing opinions among policymakers regarding future rate movements left some uncertainty in the market. Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus, said there has been volatility in gold and silver futures as investors assess the impact of these decisions and await crucial inflation data.
Subburaj indicated that gold must remain above Rs 1,43,321 to prevent increased downside pressure. Conversely, a sustained rise above Rs 1,44,343 would support recovery trends. For silver, stability above Rs 1,94,000 per kilogram is necessary, while a breakout above Rs 1,96,550 could enhance momentum.
Nischal Shetty, founder of WazirX, noted that the Fed’s interest rate decision alleviated some risks in financial conditions, but mentioned the variability in global monetary policy, as two Fed policymakers advocated for an increase in rates. This uneven approach reflects broader market conditions, including Treasury yields nearing 5 percent and Brent crude prices below $113 per barrel.
The direction of gold prices in the near term will depend heavily on upcoming U.S. inflation readings, movements in the dollar, and trends in Treasury yields. Investors continue to monitor these factors closely for clearer market signals.
