Five Weather Systems Trigger Rain in Madhya Pradesh: Thunderstorm Alert Issued Across State, Conditions to Ease from May 14

Bhopal, May 12, 2025Madhya Pradesh is witnessing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, driven by the influence of three cyclonic circulations and two troughs, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Saturday, districts including Gwalior and Mandla recorded moderate to heavy showers. The same weather pattern is expected to persist across the state on Sunday as well

Statewide Thunderstorm and Rain Alert Issued

The IMD has placed all districts in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Shahdol, Gwalior, Chambal, Jabalpur, and Sagar divisions under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, rain, and gusty winds. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40–50 km/h in affected regions.

This warning follows light to moderate rainfall recorded in several parts of the state on Saturday. Gwalior experienced light showers in the evening, while Mandla saw intense rain around 3 PM, bringing temporary relief from heat and humidity.

Temperature Climbs Despite Rain

Despite the wet conditions, maximum temperatures surged past 40°C in many parts of the state. Khajuraho and Damoh emerged as the hottest locations. Among major cities:

  • Gwalior recorded 39.1°C

  • Bhopal stood at 37.2°C

  • Indore measured 35.5°C

  • Ujjain hit 36.5°C

  • Jabalpur rose to 37.8°C

Meanwhile, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Umaria, Sidhi, Khandwa, and Mandla also crossed the 39°C mark. Pachmarhi, the state’s only hill station, reported the lowest temperature at 30.2°C, while Raisen recorded 34°C.

Weather System to Weaken from May 14

The current weather system is expected to weaken starting May 14, as per IMD forecasts. Afterward, clearer skies and rising temperatures are likely, signaling a return to typical pre-monsoon heat conditions.

Residents are advised to remain alert and follow safety advisories issued by local administrations, especially in view of gusty winds and lightning risks.
