New Delhi, April 8 : An interstate firearms supplier who was wanted in the North-East Delhi riots case was arrested from the Tahirpur area of Delhi, police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Babu Wasim (34), was absconding for over two years in riots cases and was declared a Proclaimed Offender on March 16 last year by Trial Court. A team of Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Wasim on Thursday evening from Delhi’s Tahirpur area. Wasim was wanted in an infamous case of Shahrukh Khan alias Pathan who was found brandishing a loaded pistol towards a policeman in form on duty during the infamous North-East Delhi riots in Jafrabad area, said Jasmeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Delhi Police. The video of Shahrukh Khan brandishing the pistol towards a policeman during the riots had gone viral. Delhi Police claimed that during questioning Wasim admitted to have supplied the said pistol seen in the video to Shahrukh before North-East Delhi riots. Wasim had absconded after the video went viral in order to escape from his arrest in that case. His role in supplying the firearms to rioters in north east Delhi in 2020, is being probed, said DCP.
