Greater Noida, August 14: Under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the Bharatiya Kisan Union led a massive bike rally in Greater Noida on Thursday. Hundreds of farmers participated in the rally, proudly displaying the national flag as they rode their bikes. The rally commenced from the Zero Point of the Yamuna Expressway and concluded at the office of the Yamuna Industrial Development Authority (YIDA) after passing through Pari Chowk. Here, the farmers submitted a memorandum to the government addressing their various pending demands.
During the rally, led by Bhakiyu’s National General Secretary and State Spokesperson Pawan Khatana, farmers raised slogans of “Vande Mataram” in honor of the national flag. The large turnout of farmers along the route highlighted the rally’s main objective: to effectively communicate their long-standing demands to the government and the authority. Upon reaching the YIDA office, farmer leaders handed over the memorandum to the authority’s OSD, Abhishek Shahi, which included several crucial issues concerning the farmers of Gautam Buddh Nagar. The farmers emphasized their intention to present their demands peacefully and expressed hope for a swift resolution to their pending issues.
After submitting the memorandum, Pawan Khatana stated that the government and the authority have been given a deadline of August 18, 2026, to address the farmers’ issues. He mentioned that if the major problems outlined in the memorandum are resolved by this date, the farmers’ organization will thank the authority’s officials. However, if no action is taken, a large mahapanchayat will be organized at the YIDA office on August 24, 2026. He warned that if their demands remain unaddressed, the movement will intensify and spread to villages.
Bhakiyu’s District Media In-Charge Sunil Pradhan noted that the bike rally conveyed a message to the government that farmers wish to raise their demands in a democratic and peaceful manner. The farmers insist that along with regional development, the interests of affected farmers must also be considered, and long-pending issues should be resolved promptly. Key demands in the memorandum include a payment of 64.7 percent additional compensation, resolution of pending issues related to population, leaseback, and shifting.
Farmers have also called for the implementation of a 10 percent residential plot policy, rehabilitation of affected families, job opportunities for local youth, a guarantee of minimum support prices, and the waiver of farmers’ debts. Farmer leaders stated that the rapid industrial and urban development in the area has directly impacted local farmers and their families, making it essential to safeguard their economic and social interests. They warned that if their demands are not addressed within the stipulated timeframe, the movement will be expanded, and strategies will be developed to connect farmers across villages to ensure the upcoming mahapanchayat’s success.
