England Reaches T20 World Cup Semifinals, Sets New Record

New Delhi, February 25: England secured its place in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating Pakistan in a Super-8 match played on Tuesday. This victory marks England as the first team to reach the semifinals in this edition of the World Cup.

This is the fifth consecutive time that the England team has made it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, having reached this stage since 2016. Pakistan (from 2007 to 2012) and Sri Lanka (from 2009 to 2014) have also reached the semifinals four times in a row.

With this achievement, England now joins Pakistan as the team with the most semifinal appearances in T20 World Cup history. Pakistan has played in six semifinals, while England has reached this stage for the sixth time. The Indian team has made it to the semifinals five times.

By reaching the semifinals for the sixth time, England has equaled Pakistan’s record while surpassing the Indian team. The Indian team still has the opportunity to match England and Pakistan by securing a spot in the semifinals.

England has played in the T20 World Cup finals in 2010, 2016, and 2022. They won the title in 2010 by defeating Australia and in 2022 by beating Pakistan, while they faced defeat against the West Indies in 2016.

The Indian team has also played in three T20 World Cup finals. They won the World Cup in 2007 by defeating Pakistan, lost to Sri Lanka in their second final in 2014, and claimed their second title in 2024 by beating South Africa.

Pakistan has reached the finals in 2007, 2009, and 2022, losing to India in 2007 and England in 2022, while winning their only T20 World Cup in 2009 against Sri Lanka.
