Mumbai, March 16: The 98th Academy Awards ceremony held at the prestigious Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles celebrated the hard work and talent of artists. American actress Emmy Madigan received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film ‘Weapons,’ while Hollywood actor Sean Penn was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance in the political thriller ‘One Battle After Another.’

The Academy announced Emmy Madigan’s victory on its official social media platform X, congratulating her on winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Weapons.’ In the film, Emmy played a significant supporting role, earning critical acclaim for her performance, which adds depth to the film’s tense and psychological storyline. ‘Weapons’ has been a hot topic during the awards season. This award marks a true recognition of Emmy’s contributions to the industry, a significant honor often awarded to veteran actors in the later stages of their careers.

Meanwhile, the Academy also congratulated Sean Penn for winning Best Supporting Actor for ‘One Battle After Another,’ stating, “Operation complete.” In the film, Sean portrayed Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw, a complex and controversial character whose ideological conflicts drive the story forward. Critics praised his depth and remarkable acting.

This marks Sean Penn’s third Academy Award, and his first in the supporting category. He previously won Oscars for his performances in ‘Mystic River’ and ‘Milk.’ Notably, Sean Penn did not attend the ceremony; the award was accepted on his behalf by presenter Kieran Culkin.

The ceremony took place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Comedian and late-night host Conan O’Brien hosted the event, having also hosted the 2025 show. Priyanka Chopra was among the presenters this year.
