Head Constable Caught

Director General of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Govind Gupta, stated that the ACB Dungarpur received a complaint alleging demand of a bribe of ₹2 lakh by Constable Prakash Chandra Patel. As per the complaint, on 18 January 2026, the complainant was standing near the Indian Petrol Pump at Nayagaon when a police vehicle stopped and a policeman questioned him about the address of one Nilesh, son of Kevji Patidar, resident of Nayagaon. On stating that he did not know the address, the complainant was asked his name and his mobile phone was taken and checked.

The policeman allegedly accused the complainant of cheating people through online gaming and took him in the police vehicle towards Dovda Police Station. During the journey, the policeman introduced himself as Prakash Patidar and allegedly claimed that he could prevent a case from being registered by speaking to the Station House Officer, and would also return the mobile phone. He allegedly warned the complainant that if a case was registered, it would ruin his life and bail would not be granted for months. The complainant was later dropped at Wagdhari and was allegedly asked to bring ₹2 lakh to Dovda Police Station to avoid legal action and get his mobile phone back.

The complainant informed his elder brother about the incident. On 20 January and 24 January 2026, the complainant’s brother contacted Constable Prakash Patidar over the phone, during which he was allegedly told to come to Dovda Police Station instead of talking on the phone. The complaint stated that the constable continued to harass the complainant by demanding a bribe of ₹2 lakh.

On 28 January 2026, the ACB conducted verification of the bribe demand, during which Constable Prakash Chandra Patel and Head Constable Ashok Kumar Patidar agreed to accept ₹1.5 lakh from the complainant. Under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Dr Rameshwar Singh, the ACB Dungarpur team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratan Singh Rajpurohit, laid a trap and caught both accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹1.5 lakh.

Under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Rajesh Singh, further interrogation and legal action against the accused is underway. The ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation will be carried out.
