
On-board platform (OTT) Disney+ Hotstar on Thursday announced that it will broadcast select Premier League matches in 4K resolution. The streaming giant also claimed that this is the first time a Premier League match will be broadcast in 4K resolution in India. In total, more than 100 football matches will be broadcast in the above-mentioned quality for the platform’s subscribers. Specifically, the top division of the English Football League system begins on August 17th and runs until May 2025.
Disney+ Hotstar streams Premier League games in 4K
The streaming giant announced the news in a press release, highlighting that Premier League fans will be able to experience more than 100 games of the season in 4K resolution on 4K-compatible living room devices. This means that users playing games on a laptop or desktop will not get high-definition streaming, even if their device supports 4K resolution.
Disney+ Hotstar offers this service to its premium subscribers. Premium subscribers are the platform’s most expensive subscription tier and allow up to four devices to be logged into your account at the same time. Notably, 4K resolution streaming is only available for English audio feeds.
The Premier League, which includes football clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, began its 2024/25 season on August 17, with all 20 participating clubs playing their first games. Each club plays a total of 38 games during the season and plays against the other clubs twice. These tournaments usually take place on weekends, although some tournaments also take place midweek.
Disney+ Hotstar has not announced which matches will be broadcast in 4K resolution, but the above-mentioned clubs are likely to feature given their popularity in the country and these competitive matches will crown the tournament winners.
