Delhi’s Air Quality Remains ‘Very Poor’; CM Rekha Gupta Orders Strict Action Against Violations

New Delhi, November 4 (Udaipur Kiran): The air quality in the national capital continued to deteriorate on Tuesday, with dense smog covering the skyline and the Air Quality Index (AQI) remaining in the ‘very poor’ category across several parts of Delhi, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

As per CPCB readings, ITO and nearby areas recorded an AQI of 347, placing them in the ‘very poor’ category. Anand Vihar reported one of the highest levels at 392, while the Kartavya Path area recorded an AQI of 278, classified as ‘poor’. The situation was worst in Jahangirpuri, where the AQI crossed 400, entering the ‘severe’ range.

Despite ongoing pollution control efforts, smog and pollutants continue to blanket Delhi, leading to poor visibility and increasing public health concerns.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has warned officials against any negligence in pollution management. She emphasized that pollution control remains the government’s top priority, and any lapse in implementation will attract strict disciplinary action.

During a high-level review meeting held on Monday, the Chief Minister directed all departments to deploy additional enforcement teams, take stringent action against polluting industries and vehicles, and ensure that measures are effectively implemented on the ground. “The goal is not just to reduce pollution but to completely stop its escalation,” she stated firmly.

Gupta also announced the formation of special monitoring squads to curb incidents of garbage burning, warning that violators would face hefty fines and legal action. She further added that the Delhi government is working closely with neighbouring states to coordinate joint efforts aimed at improving regional air quality.
