Meerut, May 26, 2025 — In a disturbing case from Uttar Pradesh, a 35-year-old woman from Delhi has been accused of having an illicit relationship with her 16-year-old nephew, prompting police investigation under child protection and sexual exploitation laws. The situation took a dramatic turn when the woman arrived with local police at the boy’s home in Daurala, Meerut, insisting that the minor was not her nephew but her husband.

According to local reports, the teenager had been living in Delhi for the past two-and-a-half years, having been sent there by his mother to learn electrical repair work following the death of his father. However, when the boy returned to his hometown in Meerut, the woman unexpectedly followed him, allegedly attempting to take him back to Delhi. Her arrival, accompanied by law enforcement, raised alarms among the family and neighbours.
The boy’s mother filed a formal complaint with Daurala Police Station, alleging that the woman had manipulated and exploited her minor son over an extended period. She also accused the woman of psychological coercion and said her son was not in a position to provide informed consent.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity. “The allegations involve a minor, and we have requested official age-verification documents before initiating legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of child protection laws,” he said.
The woman, meanwhile, maintains that the relationship is consensual and claims she now considers the teenager her husband. Authorities, however, are clear that under Indian law, any sexual relationship involving a person under the age of 18 constitutes statutory rape, irrespective of consent.
The case has raised concerns about child safety and legal loopholes in informal guardianship or live-in arrangements. Police are examining digital communication, witness statements, and medical evaluations to establish a clear timeline and determine the nature of the relationship.
Legal experts say that if the boy’s age is confirmed to be under 18, the woman could face charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which carries strict penalties for adult involvement with minors.
