New Delhi, 13 December (Udaipur Kiran) – The air pollution level in Delhi-NCR has risen sharply again. On Saturday at 10 AM, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 401, marking it in the ‘severe’ category. In response to the worsening pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has immediately implemented restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-3.
The CAQM stated on Saturday that the increase in AQI was due to low wind speed, stable atmospheric conditions, and adverse weather. An emergency meeting of the commission’s subcommittee was convened to review the situation and decide on strict measures. Under the GRAP-3 restrictions, diesel buses operating outside and inside Delhi will be banned. Additionally, demolition activities and non-essential construction work, including the movement of trucks carrying cement, sand, and similar materials, will be prohibited. Consideration may be given to running schools up to class 5 in hybrid mode. Diesel generators will be banned except for emergency services.
On 12 December at 4 PM, the AQI was 349, but it increased rapidly overnight, reaching 401 by 10 AM on 13 December.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI is classified as ‘Good’ from 0 to 50, ‘Satisfactory’ from 51 to 100, ‘Moderate’ from 101 to 200, ‘Poor’ from 201 to 300, ‘Very Poor’ from 301 to 400, and ‘Severe’ from 401 to 500.
