New Delhi, March 5 : The Indian men’s doubles team of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan on Saturday defeated Danes Frederik Nielsen (captain) and Mikael Torpegaard 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in three sets to seal the five match tie 3-0 for India at the Delhi Gymkhana Club here. With an unassailable 3-0 lead, India cemented their spot in the World Group 1 of Davis Cup 2022. Both teams went neck-to-neck in the first set. With the score at 6-6, the match went into tie breaker, which the Danes took by (7-3) to win the set. Then, Indians were quick enough to level the match 1-1 as they won the second set 6-4. In the deciding set, Rohan and Divij dug deep to take the match into tie breaker, which they won 7-4 to wrap up match as well as the series. On Friday, India got off to a strong start against Denmark as Ramkumar Ramanathan and Yuki Babhmabri won their matches in the Davis Cup group 1 playoff tie to take a 2-0 lead. Ramanathan and Bhambri will play the remaining reverse singles matches. BAV MR
