Court Denies Bail to SMS Hospital Doctor and Associate in Bribery Case

Jaipur, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran): The Special Court (ACB Cases) No. 1, Metropolitan-II, Jaipur, has rejected the bail plea of Dr. Manish Agarwal, Head of the Neuro Surgery Department at SMS Hospital, and his associate Jagat Singh, who were arrested for allegedly accepting a ₹1 lakh bribe to clear a bill related to a brain coil purchase.

Jaipur ACB case

Presiding Officer Surendra Kumar observed that the growing trend of corruption among public servants must be curbed to ensure smooth public service delivery and to instill fear of law among officials involved in such offences.

The court noted that there is prima facie evidence showing that Dr. Agarwal accepted ₹1 lakh through his associate Jagat Singh for processing an official bill and later attempted to destroy the envelope containing the bribe when the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap team arrived.

The court further stated that since the investigation is still ongoing, granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate.

In the bail plea, the defence argued that the complainant had no pending work with Dr. Agarwal, that bill clearance was handled by a committee, and that the doctor had not personally demanded any money or even met the complainant before the ACB complaint was filed.

However, Special Public Prosecutor Shalini Gautam opposed the plea, stating that the accused were caught red-handed with the bribe and that the prosecution has sufficient evidence against them.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the bail applications of both Dr. Agarwal and Jagat Singh.
