Rajasthan Weather Update: Cyclone Arnab Brings Rain, Hail and Strong Winds; Cold Conditions Increase Before Diwali
Jaipur, October 30, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): Rajasthan’s weather has changed following the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal. Cloudy conditions prevailed across eastern parts of the state, with several districts receiving rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Hailstorms were also reported in some areas.
In Jaipur, light rain that began on Thursday afternoon intensified in the evening. The city recorded around 20 mm of rainfall between 6 PM and 8 PM. Rain and cold winds brought down the daytime temperature by around 4 degrees Celsius, while the evening temperature dropped to 23.4 degrees Celsius.
The change in weather brought relief from the heat, but the accompanying cold winds increased the chill. People were seen wearing warm clothes in several parts of the city.

Jaipur Temperature 5 Degrees Below Normal
Weather conditions changed in Jaipur from Thursday morning, with clouds covering the sky throughout the day. Winds blew at speeds of around 40 kmph.
Intermittent drizzle began in several parts of the city after noon and turned into heavier rain by evening. Areas including Tonk Road, Malviya Nagar, Jagatpura, 22 Godam, JLN Marg, Sodala, Pratap Nagar, Sanganer, C-Scheme, Ajmer Road, Vaishali Nagar and Mansarovar received rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 27.4 degrees Celsius, which was 5 degrees below normal. By 7 PM, the temperature had dropped to 23.4 degrees Celsius.
Cold winds after the rainfall increased the chill, and residents felt the need for warm clothing for the first time this season.
Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail in Several Eastern Rajasthan Districts
Apart from Jaipur, changing weather conditions were reported in Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Tonk, Kotputli-Behror, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar and Ajmer.
Several areas received light to moderate rainfall, while hailstorms accompanied by strong winds were reported at some locations. Wind speeds in several areas reached 40 to 50 kmph.
Rainfall brought down daytime temperatures by 5 to 8 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures remained below 30 degrees Celsius in 12 cities across the state, providing relief from the heat even during the daytime.
IMD Issues Orange Alert for Alwar, Yellow Alert for Nine Districts
The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts of eastern Rajasthan on October 30.
An orange alert has been issued for Alwar district. Isolated areas may experience moderate to intense thunderstorms, winds reaching 40 to 60 kmph and light to moderate rainfall.
A yellow alert has been issued for Kotputli-Behror, Khairthal-Tijara, Deeg, Bharatpur, Dausa, Tonk, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur and Karauli. These districts may experience winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph along with light to moderate rainfall.
Rainfall activity may continue in several parts of the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Kota and Ajmer divisions. Isolated areas of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions may also receive light rain on October 29 and 30.
However, most parts of the western Rajasthan border areas are likely to remain dry.
How Do Cyclones Affect Rajasthan?
According to Meteorological Centre Director Radheshyam Sharma, cyclonic systems developing over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal can influence Rajasthan under different weather conditions.
Some cyclones originating in the Arabian Sea move towards the Gujarat coast. After weakening following landfall, their remnants may affect weather conditions in Rajasthan.
Similarly, weakened systems from the Bay of Bengal can move towards central India and influence weather in Rajasthan.
In the case of Cyclone Arnab, Rajasthan was not directly affected by the storm. However, moisture associated with the system, along with the interaction of other weather systems, contributed to rainfall and strong winds in eastern parts of the state.
Rain May Benefit Rabi Crops, Bring Relief to Farmers
The change in weather may also benefit agriculture. Mustard sowing is currently underway in Rajasthan, and rainfall could increase soil moisture in agricultural fields.
This may reduce the need for initial irrigation and provide some relief to farmers engaged in mustard sowing. Increased soil moisture could also benefit upcoming wheat and gram crops.
However, the actual benefit to crops will depend on the amount of rainfall, waterlogging conditions in fields and weather developments in the coming days.
Colder Conditions Expected Before Diwali
With Diwali approaching next week, rainfall has started bringing down both daytime and nighttime temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department, cloudy conditions and further rainfall may cause temperatures to fall by another 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
People may experience increased chill during the morning and evening hours around Diwali, making warm clothing necessary.
Although Cyclone Arnab has weakened, moisture associated with the system and other weather conditions may continue to influence Rajasthan’s weather.
