Cold Wave Tightens Grip Over Rajasthan, Yellow Alert Issued in 8 Districts

Jaipur, January 8 – Northern winds sweeping across Rajasthan have intensified the chill, especially during morning and evening hours. The cold wave has gripped several parts of the state, with Fatehpur in Sikar district recording a drastic temperature drop from 9°C on Tuesday to 0°C on Wednesday morning, the lowest in the state. Nagaur recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5°C, while other regions, including Mount Abu, Sirohi, and Banasthali, also witnessed significant temperature drops.

Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi-NCR

The Jaipur Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Dausa, and three other districts. A western disturbance is expected to become active on January 10-11, bringing cloud cover and light rain to parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions, which could lead to a brief respite from the cold before Makar Sankranti.

Cold Intensifies in Pali and Nagaur

The chill continues unabated in Pali and Nagaur, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 7°C and 2.5°C, respectively. Fatehpur, which remained under dense fog and cold wave conditions, saw a sudden dip in temperature, leading to extremely cold conditions. The weather department predicts that the cold spell will persist for the next few days, with northeastern Rajasthan expected to get partial relief from the cold wave starting January 9.

Major cities in Rajasthan recorded notable fluctuations in daytime and nighttime temperatures. Here’s a summary of temperatures reported on Tuesday:

  • Ajmer: Maximum 20.3°C, Minimum 8.3°C
  • Bhilwara: Maximum 21.3°C, Minimum 6.8°C
  • Jaipur: Maximum 20.1°C, Minimum 7°C
  • Pilani: Maximum 20.6°C, Minimum 6.8°C
  • Sikar: Maximum 18°C, Minimum 7°C
  • Kota: Maximum 20.3°C, Minimum 10°C
  • Chittorgarh: Maximum 22.9°C, Minimum 5.9°C

In Udaipur, the day temperature was recorded at 22°C, while the night temperature stood at 7.2°C. Barmer saw the warmest day in the state, with a maximum temperature of 24.2°C and a minimum of 8.4°C.

Upcoming Weather Changes

According to the weather department, a strong western disturbance is likely to affect Rajasthan starting from January 10 evening, bringing cloud cover, light to moderate rain, and possible hailstorms in parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions. By January 11, the disturbance is expected to spread towards northeastern Rajasthan, affecting regions such as Anupgarh, Sikar, Alwar, Jhunjhunu, and Jaipur, with chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.
