Chris Brown has received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for one year, following an assault on music producer Abe Diaw in a London nightclub.

During the incident in 2023, Diaw sustained head and knee injuries requiring hospital treatment. Brown and his co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, pleaded guilty to affray at Southwark Crown Court in July.

Judge Tony Baumgartner noted that Akinlolu’s involvement was significant but less severe than Brown’s, leading to a lesser sentence of four months, also suspended. CCTV footage showed Brown using a tequila bottle to strike Diaw, demonstrating “the repeated use” of a bottle as “plainly dangerous,” according to the judge.

Brown and Akinlolu pursued Diaw in a crowded environment, continuing the assault as he attempted to escape. The judge described the violence as intense but acknowledged that the incident lasted no more than 20 seconds and was not premeditated.

Both defendants were also ordered to pay £1,500 each towards prosecution costs. Although their sentences are suspended, the judge emphasized they should be considered a form of punishment.
