Panaji : The Bombay High Court at Goa on Thursday dismissed the petitions seeking disqualification of the 12 MLAs who had joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after quitting their respective parties in 2019.

The petition was heard by a Division Bench comprising Justice Manish Pitale and Justice R N Laddha.
Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar had filed a petition seeking disqualification of the party’s 10 MLA’s who had quit the Congress and joined the BJP in July 2019.
A similar petition was filed by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Sudin Dhavalikar against the party’s two MLAs for switching over to the BJP.
On April 21 last year, Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar had dismissed the petitions filed by the Congress and the BJP leaders.
Switching over to the BJP the Congress and MGP MLAs had strengthened BJP in the state assembly providing it stability over the last two and half years.
Out of 12 MLAs, 11 have contested the assembly elections which are held on February 14 and results of which would be announced on March 10, 2022.
