According to the police, the deceased were identified as Dhruvi (19), daughter of Ashok Bapna, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, and Abhishek (20), son of Sunil Chelawat, from Saheli Nagar. Both had studied together in school. Dhruvi was working as a CA article trainee at a company in Meera Complex, Sardarpura. When she did not return home from work on Thursday night, her family began searching for her. Failing to locate her, the worried family filed a missing person report at the Bhupalpura police station.
The police started tracking Dhruvi’s location based on her mobile phone, which led them to Badi Talab, where they found her scooter. Around 6 a.m. on Friday, her body was discovered in the lake and identified as Dhruvi. Abhishek’s shoes and mobile location were also found nearby. Despite recovering Dhruvi’s body, the rescue operation continued, and by 4 p.m., Abhishek’s body was also recovered from the lake.
The police conducted Dhruvi’s post-mortem and handed over her body to her family, while Abhishek’s body was kept in the morgue, and his post-mortem was conducted on Saturday morning.
In addition to this tragedy, serious allegations of police negligence surfaced. Locals claimed that the police delayed the rescue, with officers reportedly saying their vehicle had no fuel and that they would have to wait until morning. Frustrated residents had to arrange fuel themselves to bring the police to the scene. Outraged by this negligence, people demanded the resignation of the station in-charge.
