BJP MLA Accused of Assaulting Government Engineer in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 2: A controversy has escalated in Sri Ganganagar involving a BJP MLA and officials from the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP). An assistant engineer has accused the MLA of physical assault and showcased his injuries during a press conference. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has termed the incident serious.

Gehlot stated that on Thursday, BJP MLA Jaydeep Bihani accused RUIDP officials of assault, but the situation intensified on Friday when the officials held a press conference to accuse the MLA of assault and displayed their injuries to the media.

“This is a very serious and unfortunate incident. The fact that government officials had to come forward to make accusations and show their injuries raises many questions,” Gehlot remarked. He emphasized the sensitivity of the case, noting that one of the involved officials belongs to the Dalit community. “Any incident involving a member of the Dalit community should be taken with utmost seriousness and sensitivity,” he added.

Gehlot urged the state government to intervene immediately and conduct a fair and transparent investigation. “The government should take this matter seriously and ensure a fair investigation to bring the truth to light. Strict action should be taken against anyone found guilty,” he stated.

The dispute in Sri Ganganagar escalated between BJP MLA Jaydeep Bihani and RUIDP assistant engineer Jagannath Bairwa. On Friday, Bairwa alleged that he was assaulted. He claimed, “The MLA kicked me and beat me with a pipe. I was made to wear a new shirt before being presented to the police.”

L&T manager Shahnawaz Hasan and engineer Soham Parmar were also granted bail on Friday. After their release, all three spoke to the media at the district council office. Bairwa appeared before the media in a torn vest, showing his injuries and alleging that he was made to wear a new shirt after the assault to downplay the incident.

He explained that on Thursday morning, executive engineer Monindrjeet Singh and AEN Krishna Dhariwal had summoned him to the BJP MLA’s service center located in the S.D. Bihani College campus.

Around 11:30 AM on Friday, he received a call from the MLA’s number asking him to come immediately. Bairwa recounted, “When I arrived there with Shahnawaz Hasan and Soham Parmar, the MLA was sitting in his car. As soon as I approached him, he started slapping me and hurling abuses. Then his supporters threw me to the ground, kicked me, and beat me with a pipe.”

Bairwa has filed a complaint against MLA Jaydeep Bihani and his supporters, demanding strict action. The Rajasthan Diploma Engineers Council has condemned the incident.

The council’s state president, Balram Jakhar, alleged that engineers were called under the pretext of a meeting and then assaulted. He claimed that their mobile phones were confiscated to prevent recording the incident.

He warned that if justice is not served soon, engineers across Rajasthan will boycott work and initiate a statewide movement.

This controversy emerged during MLA Jaydeep Bihani’s public hearing. However, the MLA has also accused the officials of assault and has filed a complaint.
