BJP Demands Special Assembly Session for Nari Shakti Vandan in Jharkhand

Ranchi, May 4: The Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, along with BJP state president Aditya Sahu, has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, demanding a special assembly session to support the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act.’ The BJP leaders emphasized that the state government should take significant steps regarding this important bill related to women’s reservation.

In their letter to the Chief Minister, the BJP leaders pointed out that the central government had convened a special session of Parliament from April 16 to 18 to present the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act.’ They alleged that the bill could not be passed due to a lack of cooperation from opposition parties.

The letter stated that if this bill is passed, it would provide a historic opportunity for half of the country’s population to gain representation starting in 2029. According to the BJP leaders, the implementation of this bill could increase the number of Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand from 14 to 21, ensuring representation for women in 7 seats. Similarly, it was mentioned that the number of assembly seats could rise from 81 to 121, with women gaining representation in 41 seats.

Babulal Marandi and Aditya Sahu highlighted that women have always held a respectable place in Jharkhand’s social and cultural traditions. They referenced the valorous figures of Phoolo-Jhano, asserting that women in Jharkhand should have greater representation in the political decision-making process.

The BJP leaders urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to call a special assembly session with the governor’s permission and pass a resolution in support of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act,’ requesting the central government to reintroduce it in Parliament.

The letter concluded by stating that if the Chief Minister rises above party politics to make a decision on this issue, it would prove to be a historic step for half of Jharkhand’s population. The BJP leaders expressed hope that the Chief Minister would seriously consider this socially significant matter.
