Udaipur, January 18: (Udaipur Kiran). A case of molestation involving an Australian tourist visiting Udaipur has come to light, prompting swift action by the police. The incident occurred in the Ambamata police station area, where an auto-rickshaw driver allegedly misbehaved with the foreign national at a bar.
According to police, the accused has been identified as 38-year-old Tausif Ali, a resident of Khanjipir. He has been arrested in connection with the case. During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that the act was committed under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the Australian woman had arrived in India on a tourist visa in the first week of January. After spending about a week visiting different parts of the country, she reached Udaipur on January 15. To explore the city, she hired an auto-rickshaw. In the evening, she visited a bar located near the Sukhadia Circle area, where the auto driver allegedly misbehaved with her while intoxicated.
Shaken by the incident, the tourist immediately returned to her hotel. The following day, on January 16, she gathered courage and lodged a complaint at the Ambamata police station. Given the involvement of a foreign tourist, the matter was treated with seriousness, and a special police team was formed without delay.
The police arrested the accused auto driver on Saturday and have also collected CCTV footage from the spot as part of the investigation. Further inquiry into the case is ongoing.
