New Delhi, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): England took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series after defeating New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20 played at Christchurch. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid starred with the ball, taking four wickets to guide the visitors to a convincing victory.

Batting first after losing the toss, England posted a massive 236 for 4 in their 20 overs. Despite early setbacks with Jos Buttler (4) and Jacob Bethell (24) departing early at 68, captain Harry Brook and Phil Salt built a crucial 129-run partnership for the third wicket, putting England firmly in control.

Brook played a blistering innings of 78 runs off 35 balls, hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes, while Salt anchored the innings with 85 runs off 56 balls, including 11 fours and a six.

For New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson claimed two wickets, while Jacob Bethell and Michael Bracewell picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 237, New Zealand faltered early and were bowled out for 171 runs in 18 overs. The hosts lost two wickets for just 18 runs before Tim Seifert (39) and Mark Chapman (28) steadied the innings with a 69-run stand. However, Chapman’s dismissal triggered another collapse.

Captain Mitchell Santner played a quickfire cameo of 36 runs off 15 balls, but his efforts weren’t enough to save New Zealand from defeat.

Adil Rashid was the star performer for England, finishing with figures of 4 for 32 in his 4 overs. Luke Wood, Brydon Carse, and Liam Dawson supported well, taking two wickets each.

The first T20 match was washed out due to rain. The third and final T20 will be played on October 23, followed by a three-match ODI series between the two sides.
