According to officials, divers from the Civil Defence Department conducted a rescue operation from 11 am to 6 pm, searching multiple locations inside the lake. The search operation will resume again on Monday.

The missing person has been identified as Lalit Mehta (62), a resident of Ashok Nagar, who had reportedly been swimming regularly for the last 20 years and also trained others in swimming. He was engaged in grain trading business at Dhanmandi.

Family members said Lalit Mehta reached Fateh Sagar around 8 am on Sunday. When he did not answer phone calls for nearly one-and-a-half hours, relatives went looking for him at the lake and found his vehicle, clothes and personal belongings near the site.

After receiving information, teams from Ambamata Police Station and the Civil Defence Department reached the spot and launched the rescue operation.

Police officials said Mehta’s wife and son remained at the lakeside throughout the day as rescue personnel continued the search.

Preliminary information suggests Mehta may have taken a long swimming dive and possibly drifted further into the lake before getting trapped in underwater bushes.

CCTV footage from the lakeside reportedly showed that Mehta arrived at the lake around 8 am, exercised as usual and later entered the water.

Station House Officer Dalpat Singh said no clues had been found till Sunday evening despite extensive efforts, and the search would continue on Monday.

Civil Defence officials including Kailash Menaria, Vipul Nakwal and divers Hussain and Jumma Khan participated in the operation.
