4 years of Modi govt: Better environment for women and children have always been govt’s priority

From making laws tougher when offences are committed to ensuring greater effort at locating missing children, the Minister had much to talk about.

Union Ministers have been presenting a report card of their Ministries before the public through DD News, on the Modi govt completing 4 years in office. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, has highlighted how women’s empowerment is a key priority of the government, and shared various development initiatives. She said government is also taking every step to provide school children a safe environment. Several steps are being taken to locate missing children, and for the protection of children. 

Government is making the law tougher. 16-year-old youth have also been brought under the Juvenile Justice Act. Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance provides capital punishment for sexual exploitation of children younger than 12 years of age. An online complaint system has been arranged for sexual exploitation at the workplace. The women helpline-181 is available throughout the country.

The govt has taken several steps to bring quick relief to rape victims. Rape kits have been arranged to provide evidence in rape cases.

Government has been taking steps for the welfare of women form all sections of society. Muslim women are now able to go on the Haj without a mahram. They have also been given relief from instant Triple Talaq. Passport Rules have been changed for single mothers and Beti Bachao, Beti Padao have improved the gender ratio across the country.
