Guwahati, October 31 (Udaipur Kiran): Assam witnessed a historic cinematic moment on Friday as the final film of late singer-actor Zubeen Garg, ‘Rai Rai Binole’, was released across the state at 4:30 AM — an unprecedented time for an Assamese film premiere. What began as a movie release soon turned into an emotional tribute to one of Assam’s most beloved artists.

From Guwahati to Dibrugarh, theatres were packed with fans braving rain and cold weather to celebrate Zubeen’s legacy. Many arrived carrying flowers; others couldn’t hold back tears. For the people of Assam, this wasn’t just a film — it was a heartfelt farewell to a legend whose voice and spirit continue to live on.
Zubeen’s Dream of a Musical Love Story Comes Alive
Director Rajesh Bhuyan shared that this was Zubeen’s long-cherished dream project. “He always wanted to make a musical love story — one filled with warmth, melody, and emotions that families could enjoy together. It was his 19-year-old dream, and we’ve been working on it for the last three years,” he said.
Bhuyan added that ‘Rai Rai Binole’ has been released nationwide with around 600 shows, all running houseful. “For the first time in Assam, a movie premiered at 4:30 AM, and every show is packed. Zubeen used to say, ‘This film will break records,’ and today I can see his words coming true. The only sorrow is that he isn’t here to witness it,” he said emotionally.
A Reflection of Zubeen’s Soul
Scriptwriter Rahul Gautam described the film as “a reflection of Zubeen’s soul.” “He always spread positivity and hope. The story is inspired by his vision, emotions, and compassion. When I started writing it in 2022, I wanted to capture his honesty and love for art. This film is not just cinema — it’s a celebration of Assam’s bond with Zubeen,” he said.
A Record-Breaking Assamese Release
Producer Shyamantak Gautam expressed mixed emotions, saying, “The love we’re seeing is overwhelming, but it hurts that Zubeen Da isn’t here. People stood outside theatres at dawn, in the rain, just to honour him. He always dreamed of taking Assamese cinema to new heights — today, that dream has been fulfilled.”
According to Sourav Dutta, General Manager (Sales & Distribution) at UFO Movies India, ‘Rai Rai Binole’ marks the biggest Assamese film release ever. “It’s being screened across 91 theatres in the Northeast and nearly 90 screens across India. Demand is so high that we’ve added 14 more screens. In my entire career, I’ve never seen such madness for a regional film,” Dutta said.
The movie has also reached audiences beyond Assam, screening in cities like Lucknow, Indore, Patna, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kochi, Jaipur, Surat, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Coimbatore, and Goa — many of which are hosting an Assamese film for the first time. There are even requests from Nepal, though yet to be confirmed.
As theatres darkened and the first notes of ‘Rai Rai Binole’ filled the air, the entire state felt united in emotion. This was more than a film premiere — it was a moment of history, love, and legacy, where an artist’s dream and a state’s affection came together in harmony.
