New Delhi, August 6 (Udaipur Kiran): The Saket Court in Delhi has granted YouTuber Dhruv Rathee until August 16 to respond to a defamation lawsuit filed by Mumbai BJP spokesperson Suresh Karamsi Nakhua. District Judge Gunjan Gupta has scheduled the next hearing in the case for August 16.
During today’s hearing, Rathee’s lawyer requested more time to respond to the case. Since Rathee resides in Germany, he was unable to appear in court, and therefore, the notice was sent to him through the Ministry of External Affairs. During the hearing, Nakhua’s lawyer argued that Rathee should provide his address to the court. Rathee habitually defames people. Even after the matter was pending in court, he continued to tweet.
It is noteworthy that on July 24, the court had issued a notice to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. The court also issued notices to Google and X (Twitter) along with Dhruv Rathee. During the hearing, Nakhua’s lawyers Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma alleged that Rathee had made derogatory allegations in his YouTube video titled ‘My Reply to Godi YouTubers’. The petition states that Dhruv Rathee has described Nakhua as a violent and abusive troll. Nakhua has sought a compensation of Rs 20 lakh from Dhruv Rathee through the petition.
The petition states that in his video, Dhruv Rathee claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited violent and abusive trolls like Ankit Jain, Suresh Nakhua and Tajinder Bagga to his official residence. Dhruv Rathee’s video has received 24 million views and 2.3 million likes. The petition states that the views and likes of this video are increasing with the passage of time.
Nakhua has said that his image has been tarnished by this video of Dhruv Rathee. People have started criticizing him because of this video and it has had a very bad impact on his personal and professional life. The petition states that Dhruv Rathee is constantly involved in defaming people and he also issues online threats through his followers. The petition demands that Dhruv Rathee be stopped from posting any further videos on Twitter.
