Uttarkashi, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran): The sacred Yamunotri Dham, one of Uttarakhand’s four revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites, will close its doors today for the winter season on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj. The temple gates will be shut at 12:30 pm.
Preparations for the annual winter closure of the Yamunotri Temple have already begun. According to the temple committee spokesperson, Purushottam Uniyal, the palanquin of Lord Shani Dev — the brother of Goddess Yamuna — left from Kharsali village early this morning to escort the deity from Yamunotri Dham.
After the ritual closure, the idol of Goddess Yamuna will be taken to her winter abode in Kharsali village, where devotees eagerly await her arrival like a beloved daughter returning home. The ceremony will be accompanied by traditional music and devotional celebrations marking the end of the pilgrimage season.
