More than 9 lakh candidates appear for GATE every year. If you think that only those students who take coaching classes will be able to crack GATE 2019, then you are definitely not thinking in a right way. Now, you must be thinking about how to prepare for GATE 2019 without taking coaching classes? There are thousands of students who have given more importance to self-study and cracked the GATE examination. Below is the complete information about the tips to ace GATE 2019 without coaching.

Start your preparation early

To prepare for any examination, it’s better if you start your preparation early as it will give you sufficient time for revision also. For a fresher, the ideal time to start your preparation is in the sixth semester. In my opinion, about 30 to 40 hours a month of self study are sufficient to crack the examination.

Be well versed with GATE Syllabus

The first step to start your preparation is to know the GATE 2019 Syllabus. So, first analyse the syllabus and the topics need to be studied. After analysing the syllabus, you need to focus on your good and weak areas. It’s pretty important to focus on your good and bad areas in order to excel in the examination.

Prepare Study Plan

Once you have gone through the syllabus and topics to study, you can prepare your own study plan. Go through the details of the syllabus and plan your schedule as per the months, days and hours left with you. It is advised to make weekly targets and try to fulfil them.

From July to November, your sole aim should be of completing GATE 2019 syllabus. After November, it is advised to practice sample papers and previous year question papers. You should devote the last few months totally for revision and to clear doubts. It’s better to make short notes, boost your fundamental concepts and think of a method to memorize formulas.

Study From Standard Books

It’s very important for you to prepare from standard books while preparing for GATE 2019. You should prepare the conceptual and numerical part together. After finishing the theory of one topic, you should do all the numerical based on that particular topic so that this will help you strengthen your concepts. Some important reference books include Design of Machine Elements by V.B.Bhandari, Fluid Mechanics by R.K.Bhansal, GATE & ESE-2019: Engineering Mathematics, Theory of machines by S. Ratan, Manufacturing science by Ghosh & Mallik, Database concepts by Korth & Sudarshan etc.

Practice From Sample Papers

After completing the syllabus, it is advised that you should solve as many sample papers as you can. Practicing sample papers is an integral part of GATE 2019 preparation and cannot be ignored. On solving practice papers, you will be able to know the exact pattern of the exam, syllabus and type of questions that are expected to come in the entrance exam. Also, you will be able to master the skill of time management after solving the sample question papers.

Online Mock Tests

Going for online mock tests is very important when you are doing self study. Mock tests are designed in accordance to the GATE 2019 examination. Students who have solved mock tests and practice sample papers will have better chances of getting selection as compared to the students who have not opted for the mock test.

Consistency Should Be Maintained

You should be consistent while preparing for GATE 2019. If you study seriously for a few days but take your preparation casually afterwards, you might end up losing the race of qualifying the entrance test. You should decide fixed study hours as per your choice and capacity and stick to your schedule.

Revision Is Must

The last stage before the GATE 2019 is to revise all that you have studied. If you ignore this part, then all your preparation goes in vain and you will forget what you have learned so far. Thus, revision is a must.
