Why should Samsung Galaxy S22 users in India and other countries upgrade their smartphones?

Samsung Galaxy S22 users may soon need to update their device to the current generation model. According to preliminary findings from Speedtest Intelligence, the latest Galaxy S24 models outperform their predecessors, particularly the S22, in terms of 5G speeds in several countries. The report notes that while speed differences between devices are minimal in some countries, in Asian markets such as India, South Korea and Thailand, Galaxy S24 models are faster than previous-generation Samsung devices.

How do older Galaxy S series phones compare to newer models in Asia?

According to the report, the new and old Samsung Galaxy S series models have performed well in India. The new model was better in both 5G download speed and multiple 5G server lag. The speed of 5G in all model generations in the country was impressive.

The Galaxy S24 models had the highest average 5G download speed at 302.43 Mbps and the lowest average 5G multiserver latency at 41.56 ms. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S22 had the slowest speed in India at 273.78 Mbps, while the Samsung Galaxy S23 was close behind at 279.93 Mbps.

Meanwhile, the average 5G download speed for the iPhone 15 family was 285.78 Mbps.

The report suggests that Indian consumers who are currently using S22 devices may want to upgrade to the S24 model. In this study, the new devices increased speeds by almost 30 Mbps.

However, users may not notice much of a difference in their 5G experience between devices, as 5G speeds are good across all generations of devices, with similar speeds across the Galaxy S22, S23 and iPhone 15 families.
In Hong Kong, the latest Galaxy S24 family performed very well, with an average 5G download speed of 165.74 Mbps and an average 5G multi-server latency in the market of 21.74 milliseconds.

However, the S24’s average 5G download speed is statistically on par with older rivals Samsung and the iPhone 15. Therefore, you may choose to upgrade based on new features rather than performance.

In Japan, Samsung devices offered similar 5G download speeds for both older and newer models.

Meanwhile, download speeds for Galaxy S23 models in Indonesia have been improved. The report adds that the speed of the iPhone 15 models was almost 25 Mbps faster than other Samsung models.

In the Philippines, the latest Galaxy S24 model offers 20 Mbps and 15 Mbps faster speeds than the S22 and S23 devices, respectively. However, the 5G speeds of the iPhone 15 models in the region were significantly below those of Samsung’s competitors.

Separately, the Samsung Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 offered faster 5G download speeds in South Korea and Thailand.
