West Indies Secures Spot in Super-8 with Win Over Nepal

Mumbai, February 15: West Indies triumphed over Nepal by 9 wickets in the 25th match of the T20 World Cup 2026, held at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. With this victory, West Indies has secured their place in the Super-8 stage after achieving their third consecutive win in Group C. Meanwhile, Nepal’s team has been eliminated from the title race after suffering three straight losses.

West Indies will face Italy in their next match on February 19, while Nepal will conclude their campaign against Scotland on February 17.

Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal managed to score 133 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. They lost their first wicket at a mere 2 runs, with Kushal Bhurtel dismissed for 1. The team struggled, losing 6 wickets for just 73 runs.

However, Dipendra Singh and Sompal Kami formed a partnership, adding 54 runs for the seventh wicket off 26 balls. Dipendra scored 58 runs off 47 balls, hitting 3 sixes and as many fours, while Sompal contributed an unbeaten 26 runs off 15 balls, helping the team recover from a dismal score.

From the West Indies’ bowling side, Jason Holder was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for 27 runs. Akil Hussain, Matthew Ford, Shamarh Brooks, and Roston Chase each claimed 1 wicket.

In response, West Indies chased down the target in just 15.2 overs. Captain Shai Hope and Brandon King put together a partnership of 43 runs in 5.3 overs. Brandon scored 22 runs off 17 balls before returning to the pavilion. Shimron Hetmyer then joined Hope, and together they formed an unbroken partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket, leading the team to a comfortable victory.

Hope remained unbeaten at 61 runs off 44 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 5 fours, while Hetmyer scored 46 runs off 32 balls with 6 boundaries. Nepal’s only success came from Nandan Yadav.
