Udaipur : In a shocking incident, an under trial prisoner tried to fling ‘chappal’ towards a woman magistrate in one of the courts in the District and Session court campus here on Monday. Luckily, the judge was unharmed as the slipper hit the dais and fell down. His second attempt failed as he was grabbed by the guards immediately.
The incident took place around 4.30 when most of the lawyers and clients had left. Bhairulal Jat resident of Kikawas village in Vallabhnagar block was under trial in a case pertaining to Arms Act. He was brought for an appearance in the ACJM, (Civil)North court no 2 in the evening. According to sources, while the proceedings were going on, Bhairulal suddenly took out his slippers and flung it towards the Judge. However, the slipper hit the dias. Before he could make a second attempt, the guards rushed and nabbed him.
According to sources, Bhairulal was under severe depression for being lodged in jail for more than 7 months. He was arrested by the HiranMagri police in February this year for possessing a knife. The matter was registered under Arms Act and the man has been jailed since. Though the law permits immediate bail in such minor cases under the Act, however, none from the accused’s family had appealed for his bail which had sent the man in a state of depression and frustration. A case has been asked to be registered by the Chief Judicial Magistrate to the Bhupalpura police station late evening.
