Udaipur : In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Udaipur, a police team from Pratapnagar police station, under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Umesh Ojha and Circle Officer Nagar East Chagan Rajpurohit, seized 439 kilograms of illicit opium worth around 30 lakh rupees along with a Scorpio vehicle.

On September 14, 2024, a team led by Station House Officer Bharat Yogi, Pratapnagar police station, had set up a naka (checkpoint) near Debari T-point bridge on NH 76 towards Pindwada. While checking the vehicles, a white, numberless Scorpio with tinted glasses was seen approaching at high speed. The team tried to stop it, but the vehicle did not stop at the checkpoint. Constables Ramswaroop and Narendra Singh swiftly placed a road spike, puncturing the vehicle’s tire.
However, the Scorpio’s driver tried to flee. The police team chased the vehicle and managed to stop it about 500 meters ahead. The driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the nearby hills. Upon searching the Scorpio, 21 sacks containing a total of 439.12 kilograms of illicit opium were found. Both the opium and the Scorpio vehicle were seized.
Three separate teams were formed under the leadership of SHO Bharat Yogi to search for the absconding accused in the nearby forests and hills. However, the accused managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forests and bushes.
A case under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered in connection with the seized opium, and the investigation has been handed over to Sub-Inspector Darshan Singh, Hirnmagri police station. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain who brought the opium and where it was being taken, and to probe the drug trafficking network.
