Udaipur Cyber Fraud: Elderly Man Loses ₹1.73 Lakh After Clicking Unknown Facebook Link
Udaipur: An elderly man in the Hiran Magri area of Udaipur has allegedly lost ₹1.73 lakh to cyber fraud after clicking an unknown link shared on Facebook. The money was withdrawn from his bank account in two transactions, but he reportedly did not receive any bank SMS alerts about the deductions.

₹1.73 Lakh Withdrawn in Two Transactions
According to police, Dinesh Porwal, a resident of Vidya Nagar, received a link related to television content on Facebook on October 21. After he opened the unknown link, ₹97,000 was deducted from his ICICI Bank account shortly afterwards.
The following day, another ₹76,800 was withdrawn from the same account. The total loss amounted to ₹1,73,800.
Despite the two transactions, Porwal did not receive any bank message or alert on his mobile phone. He discovered the missing money only when he visited the bank for some work and checked his transaction details.
Police Issue Cyber Safety Advisory
Taking the incident seriously, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Singh Ratnu has appealed to the public to remain cautious while using social media and messaging platforms.
He advised people not to click on unknown links received through social media or messages. People should also avoid entering confidential banking details, passwords or card information on unfamiliar websites or platforms.
The police have further advised bank customers to check their bank statements and transaction history regularly, even if they are not receiving SMS alerts for deductions.
