Two Robbers Arrested in New Friends Colony by Traffic Police

New Delhi, June 7: The diligent efforts of the Delhi Traffic Police led to the arrest of two robbers in the New Friends Colony area. The suspects were found in possession of two stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crime.

According to reports, around 11 AM on Saturday, ASI Latafat Ali, Head Constable Suraj Mal, and Constable Amanish Kumar were on traffic control and challan duty at the CRRI red light on Mathura Road. They noticed a motorcycle approaching from New Friends Colony, with two young men exhibiting suspicious behavior.

The officers observed that a government motorcycle was also following them. Sensing the situation, the traffic staff signaled the two men to stop. Upon seeing the police, the suspects abandoned their motorcycle and attempted to flee. The traffic officers chased them for about 200 meters and managed to apprehend both. A local police team also arrived at the scene shortly after.

During the search, two mobile phones were recovered from the suspects. Investigations revealed that one of the phones, an iPhone 15, had been snatched from a passerby near Sujan Mohindra Hospital in New Friends Colony. The victim was identified as software engineer Mukul Sharma, who was returning from the gym.

The arrested individuals were identified as 31-year-old Munir Hussain and 25-year-old Azhar Ali. Police investigations indicated that both had prior involvement in several criminal cases. Munir Hussain is noted as a declared ‘anti-social element’ from the Kashmiri Gate area, with around ten criminal cases registered against him, while Azhar Ali has been implicated in two cases.

Further investigations revealed that the second mobile phone was stolen from the Sarai Kale Khan area. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the New Friends Colony police station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Delhi Traffic Police commended ASI Latafat Ali, Head Constable Suraj Mal, and Constable Amanish Kumar for their vigilance, courage, and swift action. Authorities announced that the three officers would receive commendation letters and cash rewards for their exemplary work.
