Madhubani, August 9: A tragic road accident in the Benipatti area of Madhubani district, Bihar, claimed the lives of three women on Sunday morning. The incident occurred near the Jagdamba Petrol Pump as the women were returning home after their morning walk.
An out-of-control unidentified vehicle struck the group, resulting in the immediate deaths of all three women. The deceased have been identified as Rita Devi (42), Kiran Devi (40), and Phuldai Devi (70), residents of Nawtoli village.
According to reports, a group of women had set out for their routine morning walk and were returning home around 6 AM. It is said that some of them had stopped to rest by the roadside when a black unidentified vehicle, heading from Rahika towards Benipatti, hit them.
The impact was so severe that the women had no chance to react, leading to their deaths on the spot. Police from Benipatti and Arer arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Following the accident, local residents expressed their anger by blocking the road.
Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the Jagdamba Petrol Pump, extending for about a kilometer. A significant police presence has been deployed at the site, with officials attempting to negotiate with the families and villagers to clear the blockade. The police have initiated the process of sending the bodies for post-mortem examination and are reviewing CCTV footage in search of the fleeing driver. The village of Nawtoli is currently in mourning as the investigation continues.
