TMC Needs Kalyan Banerjee, Not the Other Way Around: Riju Dutta

Kolkata, June 13: Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Riju Dutta shared his views on recent controversies within the party. Commenting on the differences between Kalyan Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, he stated that it is good to see a reconciliation atmosphere developing between the two leaders. Just a day prior, Abhishek Banerjee referred to Kalyan Banerjee as a father figure, and Kalyan Banerjee has now shown a big heart by forgiving him like a son. While this is an internal matter of TMC, Dutta emphasized that Kalyan Banerjee does not need TMC; rather, TMC needs Kalyan Banerjee. In the current circumstances, Abhishek Banerjee may require the support of experienced lawyers, and Kalyan Banerjee’s role could be significant during this time.

Regarding allegations against Abhishek Banerjee and his personal assistant Sumit Roy, Dutta mentioned that he is aware of several charges against them. He claimed that cases are ongoing with the ED, CBI, and CID. He has also received information that an FIR has been filed at Bishnupur police station concerning alleged corruption of ₹250 crore related to Cyclone Amphan relief efforts, in which Abhishek Banerjee’s name is reportedly included.

On the ED’s raid at TMC MLA Madan Mitra’s residence in connection with the municipal recruitment scam, Dutta stated that if the ED has a complaint and has found evidence during the investigation, the agency has every right to conduct its inquiry. Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and if Mitra is innocent, he has no reason to worry. The future course of action will be clarified based on the facts that emerge from the investigation. If no evidence is found against him in court, he will be honorably acquitted.

Regarding TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh’s complaint against Kalyan Banerjee before the Lok Sabha Speaker, Dutta remarked that this is a matter between two MPs. If Ghosh has solid evidence, it is her right to file a complaint. If the complaint is found to be valid, Kalyan Banerjee will also have the opportunity to present his side. The truth will come out through the legal process.

Dutta also supported the actions of investigative agencies in the case involving the alleged forgery of a legislator’s signature sent to the Speaker. He stated that if Kunal Ghosh and Abhishek Banerjee have been summoned for questioning, they should cooperate with the investigation. This is a serious matter as it involves allegations of forgery of legislators’ signatures. The investigative agency should take any necessary steps to uncover the truth, and those summoned must cooperate with the investigation; otherwise, legal action may be taken against them.
