New Delhi, May 4: An encounter between the police and the notorious ‘Kachha-Baniyan’ gang took place late Sunday night in South Delhi, resulting in injuries to three gang members and the arrest of a total of six suspects.
According to police, they received information from a tip-off regarding an organized gang active in South Delhi, involved in multiple theft and robbery incidents. Acting swiftly on the input, the police team surrounded the suspects. Faced with being cornered, the gang members opened fire on the police, who retaliated, injuring three of the accused in the legs.
The injured gang members were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is currently reported to be stable. Following interrogation, three other suspects were apprehended at the scene. Police recovered illegal weapons, cartridges, and stolen goods from the arrested individuals, confirming the gang’s criminal activities.
The injured suspects have been identified as Nirmal Pardi alias Nikhil (34), Ambar alias Devin (25), and Samrat alias Samar alias Kala (30). All three sustained leg injuries and were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where their condition is stable.
Additionally, three other suspects—Kakesh alias Kake (24), Krish Dev (18), and Shivjeet alias Jeet (17)—were also taken into custody. All the accused are residents of Madhya Pradesh. The crime team recovered a total of seven empty shells from the scene. Police reported that approximately six rounds of firing were exchanged during the encounter.
Police officials stated that the arrested suspects have been associated with the Kachha-Baniyan gang for a long time and have committed several criminal acts in various areas of Delhi. This gang is known for breaking into homes at night while wearing minimal clothing to conceal their identities, hence the name ‘Kachha-Baniyan’ gang.
Currently, police are conducting thorough interrogations of all suspects and are investigating their previous criminal records. They are also working to identify other potential members of the gang and their network. Following this encounter, security measures in the area have been tightened.
Authorities have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately to effectively curb such incidents in the future. Police officials noted that there have been reports about this gang for some time, and they have recently become quite active, targeting vacant homes.
